Parents,
We would like to thank you for your interest in LeeHan Martial Arts Program. Providing a Challenging and Motivational Introduction to the Korean Art of self-defense by one of the World’s most highly sought after Masters and Competitors. LeeHan's semester long program was specifically designed by them to build a strong foundation in Children that in addition to physical fitness, develops discipline, honor, self-control, respect, focus, perseverance, confidence, and knowledge. Additionally, through their lifestyle and example, Children are exposed to a new Culture and its Traditions.
LeeHan's Training can also help children with conflict resolution skills, nutrition, and obesity… Here are some additional benefits Parents can expect from training in Tae Kwon Do:
Character Education - Tae Kwon Do practitioners are expected to show respect for their country, their school, their instructors, their fellow students, their parents, and even their opponents. Tae Kwon Do practitioners show respect by bowing and in their manner of speech and address. Tae Kwon Do practitioners should never argue. They should not argue with their instructor during class. They should not argue with fellow students or with their teacher nor parents. Honor, discipline, self-respect, and respect for others are Hallmarks of these teachings.
Fitness - The principles of Tae Kwon Do techniques are based on the design of the human body. For power the body develops the larger powerful muscles of the torso. The speed of the techniques comes from the fast agile muscles of the arms and legs. As students’ progress in Tae Kwon Do they learn to coordinate speed, power and develop a concentration to focus all of their body’s strength into a small hard striking surface like the edge of the hand or the heel of a foot. Physical training and exercise is intense and develops these muscle groups.
Self-Defense - When the speed and power developed through Tae Kwon Do is used in a self-defense situation against the vulnerable parts of an attacker’s body, the results can be incredible. Tae Kwon Do teaches a woman to emphasize many of her natural physical strengths such as power in the legs, while teaching her a method of self-defense efficient against a much larger opponent. Knowing they can defend themselves the students’ confidence will grow and confidence alone is usually enough to deter potential attackers.
Self-Confidence - This does not come naturally for many people but self-confidence can be developed over a period of time. Through Tae Kwon Do as students accomplish new goals, their confidence levels increase. Tae Kwon Do instills a sense of discipline, focus, and self-confidence that can carry into all aspects of life.
Major Internationally Recognized Certificate - The Kukkiwon is the educational branch of WTF (World Taekwondo Federation) and tests and certifies its members at various levels of achievement. The WTF is the only organization in the world that is recognized internationally as setting the standard for Taekwondo and regulating the sport of Taekwondo. The WTF is the only organization to meet the higher standards of achievement promulgated by the International Olympic Committee (“IOC”). No other association meets this standard. After intensive study, passing rigorous written exams (mental discipline, culture, and action philosophy) and physical exams. The students are able to participate in the Belt Advancement Test to achieve certain proficiencies before advancing up the ranks of the other belt colors—white, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown, high brown, red, high red, deputy, and finally black. The black belt for Martial Arts experts includes Dan (degree) grading of 1 through 9. This grading has specific requirements in terms of practice time, age, and complete curriculums as well as the successful completion of the belt advancement tests for each level. In addition, the art of Martial Arts is structured such that a Martial Artist who advances through the belt colors is rigorously trained both in the art itself and also in the art of teaching. In fact, a black belt holder must be qualified as an instructor and highly skilled in imparting this knowledge to students through a structured curriculum and testing methods. Students of our program are qualified to obtain their first and/or higher degree of Kukkiwon Black Belt and its certificate recognized by the World Governing Bodies have the value at full International Olympic level and the world class level.
Children ages 11~18+: This program offers older children a strong foundation in essential character qualities such as Honor, Self-Control, and Confidence. In addition, the program is designed to improve Students motor skills and enhance their Humility, Fitness, and knowledge.

What is Tae Kwon Do?
“Taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind. Today, it has become a global sport that has gained an international reputation, and stands among the official games in the Olympics”(World Taekwondo Federation, 2015, para. 2). “Taekwondo is extremely popular. Since the early 1960s, Taekwondo has flourished in the United States, and become one of the most common forms of self defense training, replacing many others like Judo, Karate, and Kung Fu schools of past decades. Canada has a large Taekwondo following as well as the United Kingdom. Taekwondo is also very popular in Australia. It is difficult to say where it is "most popular" since you can find very dedicated, loyal, and skillful practitioners all around the world. Certainly Korea, Iran, Mexico, China, Canada, the US, and the UK are all very close in their popularity and practice of Taekwondo”(World Taekwondo Federation, 2015, para. 2). The estimate number of practitioners in the Korean Martial Arts is 80 million in 200 countries (Kukkiwon, 2015).
What is Hap Ki Do?
Hapkido is a highly eclectic Korean martial art. It is a form of self defense that employs similar joint locks, grappling and throwing techniques to other martial arts, as well as kicks, punches and other striking attacks. There is also the use of traditional knife, sword, rope sang jul bong (nunchaku), cane (ji pang ee), short stick (dan bong), middle length staff (joong bong), (analogous to the Japanese jo), bo (Japanese), and gun which vary in emphasis depending the particular tradition examined.
The birth of modern Hapkido can be traced to the efforts of a group of Korean nationals in the post colonial period of Korea, Choi Yong Sul (b.1904, d.1986) and his most prominent students; Suh Bok Sub, the first student of the art; Ji Han Jae (b. 1936), arguably the greatest promoter of the art; Kim Moo Hong, a major innovator in the art; Ayung Jae Nam, who forged a greater connection between the art of Hapkido and the Japanese Aikido and then Founded Hankido, and others, all of whom were direct students of Choi or his immediate students.
